“Making The Band”
By: Brittni Allen

To be a member of the “Warhorse Marching Band” you have to have discipline, attitude, commitment, pride, and musicianship. Although the band has had a dramatic downfall, we have recently picked up the pace. Now we can say that we are once again the “Best Band in The Land”.
Under the direction of Miss S. Sewell, we plan to be #1 at everything that we do. But you can not just come and automatically be a Marching Warhorse. A freshman will start off as a “Crab”, which means that they know absolutely nothing about being a Warhorse. As a sophomore you will be identified as a “Super Crab”, who has a little more knowledge about the band but should stay open minded. As for juniors and seniors, “we are the upperclassmen and role models.” “We set the examples of discipline.” The reason that the upperclassmen are so strict, is because after they graduate they do not want to see all of their hard work go to waste.
As a marching band, we have gone through a lot, but we stick together as one big family. We have to take a lot of criticism. We hardly get any respect around Alexandria, but we receive a lot of love when we perform out of town. At home it’s always “Ya’ll Garbage, Bolton did better than ya’ll.” Out of town it’s “Oh Peabody, Ya’ll did so good!” But when we don’t perform in a parade or an event, the question is always asked, “Where’s Peabody?” RESPECT US WHEN WE COME AND MAYBE WE’LL COME BACK !!!!!! Criticism is just a part of life. It makes us march higher and strive harder to be #1.
