Action---Safety---Honor
Alexandria Senior High School
PBS Mission Statement
To facilitate positive behavior change in our students and staff; to increase instructional time through the development of effective, proactive, and education-oriented interventions that result in reductions in the number of inappropriate behaviors by students and staff of Alexandria Senior High.
What is PBS?
PBS is a proactive method of defining teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors in order to create positive school environments. Included in this program are sets of expectations for each area of the school (hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.) and specific steps to take if one of those expectations is not met by a student.
Appropriate behavior for the different areas of the school campus should be taught to each student and periodically reviewed with students by the faculty. It is important that students learn what behaviors are expected at Bolton High School, as well as what the consequences will be for not meeting those expectations.
It is for that reason that behaviors are classified into categories of major or minor, with major behaviors being handled by the administration and minor behaviors handled in the classroom by the teacher. If a student accumulates too many minor infractions, he or she is to be referred to the academic dean of the student’s grade level.
Students exhibiting positive behaviors are rewarded for doing so, and the rewards are a huge part of a successful PBS program. Please remember that all three steps – defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate behaviors – are necessary for PBS to be effective at our school. We have defined positive behaviors within this guide, but now we must teach those positive behaviors and then reward students when they exhibit them.
If you have questions, please see a PBS Team member at any time.
