Welcome to Connected Mathematics

The "teacher-friendly" web site containing lesson plans and activities that connect across the math strands.  By combining and teaching multiple objectives in a lesson, teachers will have the opportunity to teach for deeper understanding of each concept.  The development of a deeper understanding of  the topics will allow students to apply the knowledge gained in fourth and fifth grade to real-life situations.
This web location will aid in assisting teachers in developing connections across the mathematics strands.  By combining and teaching multiple objectives into unit lessons, teachers will have the opportunity to complete the whole year curriculum.
The design of this web site involves cross-referencing fourth and fifth grade DEEP Program, NCTM Standards, and Rapides Parish Curriculum guidelines.  Additionally, the site includes student activity links, problem solving strategies, and questioning techniques.
A fourth and fifth grade teacher will be able to enrich the regular classroom with student centered interactive objectives designed to teach multiple objectives embedded within a lesson.

Rapides Parish Curriculum codes are designed to correspond with the curriculum guidelines dated May, 1999, for fourth and fifth grade.

The first letter designates the strand in the mathematics curriculum:

NN - Number and Number Relation
M - Measurement
G - Geometry
A - Algebra
DDP - Data, Discrete Math, & Probability
PRF - Patterns, Relations, and Functions

The second number represents the grade level for that particular objective.  Finally, the last letter represents the objective letter found in the curriculum.
