Physical Education

 P.E. Department

Our curriculum in PreK- 3rd grade addresses all physical and health education standards, which are mandated by the state.  In 4th-6th grade, our curriculum consists of various sports units/ Health lessons.  This year we will be incorporating a new archery unit.  We also test the students in 1st-6th, twice a year, for the President's Physical Fitness Challenge.  The students also participate in a walking club, referred to as "The Mileage Club". This is a fitness program which allows us to record the amount of laps the students have walked and prizes are awarded at the end of the year.

SWIMMING

Ruby-Wise is the only elementary school in Rapides Parish with an Olympic-size swimming pool.  During our P.E. classes in May, an aquatics unit is taught to the fourth, fifth, sixth grades.  Many children have learned to swim through our program and we are very proud of it.  The pool is also used in the summer for public swimming lessons and recreation for the community.
