Overview
Disproportionality, is a significant over
representation of minorities identified to be served
by special education, and the under representation
of minorities in the area of gifted. Minority
students, particularly blacks, are significantly
more likely than white students to be identified as
having a disability. When identified, minority
students are more likely to be removed from general
education programs, and served in a more restrictive
environment.
Rapides Parish School System has addressed
this concern for several years, and will continue to
address it in new and innovative ways. We hope this
website will help to increase the awareness of
disproportionality and cultural responsiveness of
all Parish personnel and affected stakeholder groups
in the Rapides Parish community.
